When an "accidental" fire burned down her childhood home "Ashes" was trapped inside and suffered second and third degree burns as she struggled to escape. Her firefighting sister ran inside and tried to save her but unfortunately lost her life in the process. Making it out of the fire "Ashes" later discovers that this "accidental" fire that claimed her sister's life was in fact an act of arson, and due to the assorted chemicals used to cause the fire and make it look accidental "Ashes' gained her pyrokinetic powers. However her powers do not come without a price. Overusing her powers led to very real and very painful burns that remind her of the fateful day she lost her sister. Incredibly extreme overuse of her powers allows her to fully transform into a flame, which is when she is at her most powerful and vulnerable. Honoring her sister by wearing her firefighter boots, "Ashes" fights crime and works to discover who is responsible for her sister's death.
